TTDIO: Hi Logan, thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself and how you got into photography?
Logan Perrin: Hi! Thanks for having me. I’m Logan Perrin, a photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I’ve always been drawn to visual storytelling and the way a single image can capture a moment in time. My mom, who is also a photographer, took me around shooting the cities and art, and I fell in love with it at a young age. My grandparents were also photographers. I started out as a hobbyist, and now It has evolved into a full-time passion and career.
TTDIO: Your recent trip to Shaniko, Oregon, and the old ghost town has garnered a lot of interest. What inspired you to visit Shaniko?
Logan Perrin: Shaniko has always fascinated me. It’s one of Oregon’s most well-preserved ghost towns, with a rich history dating back to the late 1800’s. The idea of capturing the essence of a once-thriving town that’s now frozen in time was very appealing. It’s like stepping into a time capsule.
TTDIO: Can you describe your experience in Shaniko? What was it like to photograph the ghost town?
Logan Perrin: Shaniko was both eerie and beautiful. Walking through the empty streets and exploring the abandoned buildings gave me a profound sense of the past. Photographing the town was a unique experience because every corner had a story to tell. The old structures, vintage signs, and remnants of daily life provided endless inspiration for my photos.
TTDIO: What challenges did you face while photographing in Shaniko?
Logan Perrin: One of the main challenges was dealing with the natural elements. The weather can be quite unpredictable, with strong winds and sudden changes in lighting. Another challenge was ensuring that I respected the site. As a photographer, it’s important to capture the beauty without disturbing or damaging these historical places.
TTDIO: Your blog featuring the photos from Shaniko has received great feedback. What can readers expect when they visit your blog?
Logan Perrin: On my blog, readers can expect a visual journey through Shaniko with detailed narratives accompanying each photograph. I aim to provide context and background about the town’s history, as well as share my personal experiences and insights from the trip. It’s a blend of storytelling and photography that brings the ghost town to life.
TTDIO: What do you hope viewers take away from your photos of Shaniko?
Logan Perrin: I hope viewers gain an appreciation for the beauty and history of places like Shaniko. These ghost towns are important reminders of our past and the passage of time. Through my photos, I want to evoke a sense of nostalgia and curiosity, encouraging people to explore and preserve these historical sites.
TTDIO: What’s next for Logan Perrin Photography? Any upcoming projects or trips you’re excited about?
Logan Perrin: I’m currently planning a series of trips to other ghost towns and historical sites across the United States, and just got back from traveling Europe for17 days day, Each location has its own unique story, and I’m excited to continue documenting and sharing these journeys. Additionally, I’m working on a photo book that will compile my ghost town photography, including Shaniko, which I hope to release next year.
TTDIO: That sounds amazing! We’ll definitely be looking forward to that. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us, Logan. Any final thoughts or advice for aspiring photographers?
Logan Perrin: My pleasure! For aspiring photographers, my advice is to keep exploring and experimenting. Photography is about seeing the world differently and capturing those unique perspectives. Don’t be afraid to take risks and always stay curious. There’s always a story waiting to be told.
